Inchmahome Priory

Set on an island in the Lake of Menteith, Inchmahome is an idyllically-situated Augustinian monastery dating from 1238. Much of the 13th century building remains. There is a wide range of plant and wildlife on the island.

Highlights

  • The Lake of Mentieth - The approach by boat showcases the idyllic setting of the site.
  • The west front - an attractive architectural composition.
  • The chapter house - This meeting room houses a fine collection of stone memorials, including a rare 13th-century double effigy.
  • The island - a haven of peace and a paradise of nature.
